Brustics® Thatch Roofing We have several options for roof thatching; there are 4 thatch tile options and brushwood panels can also be utilised. A thatched roof creates that special ambience - a cool, tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. Choose from our range of kitsets or cover your own existing structure. Shade panels can be created using split-cane or tea tree.

Thatch Options - Thatch Tiles

Thatch tile Standard Tropical Custom Polyfibre

- Thatch Tiles are available in Standard (layered), Tropical, Custom or Poly Fibre styles - refer gallery photos

Our thatch tiles are wonderfully versatile and have a wide range of uses. As well as looking great, they provide cool shade (far superior to canvas), give excellent UV protection, are 98% waterproof and withstand exceptionally high winds. The eco-friendly tiles are made in South Africa using a replenishable Cape reed, which is moulded into a polyurethane base. Unlike a lot of thatching grass this reed is solid. Little maintenance is required and the tiles have a life expectancy of 3 - 6 years, depending on climate and location. (In Auckland's wet climate we find the tiles typically last 4.5 to 5 years). The tiles are very simple and easy to install or replace - they can be clipped onto an 8mm steel rod or nailed onto wood. You can create your own frame work or select from our range of kitsets.

Brustics Brushwood Panels

Panel Hip Gable Hexagonal

Brushwood Panels can be used to great effect to provide shade and shelter. They can be used as a cosmetic covering over existing roofs (usually by attaching timber battens onto the existing roof and fixing the panels to the battens). The Brushwood is a type of Australian Melaleuca which is extremely hard and durable. Expected life is 8 -10 years in a roofing situation where it is constantly exposed to the harsh U.V. rays we get in New Zealand, the life will be reduced when they are used to cover iron or ply, as the panels stay moist if there is insufficient air flow and drainage. The panels will shed the majority of rain, especially if the roof pitch is reasonably steep we recommend at least a 30 degree pitch. In addition to the standard panels, we have available a panel which is left untrimmed on one edge; this can be used to create different effects. For examples see our gallery.

MODULAR Pre-thatched sections

prethatched example

Provide the aesthetic luxury of looking like an authentic thatch roof, combined with an attractive internal appearance all at a fraction of the cost of most thatch roofs.

Can be purchased as a kitset for ease of installation, the sections coming in triangular and rectangular shapes (2300mm x 2700mm). Also available are a number of wall options designed to support the roof thatching. Pre-moulded fibreglass caps are used to cover the ridges. The size of the pre-thatched sections mean the width of the building (3900mm internally) cannot be changed, however, it can be extended length wise. The thatch sections are approximately 130mm thick, giving excellent insulation, keeping your building cool in summer and warm in winter. They provide a unique atmosphere and their versatility makes for wonderful possibilities, such as garden gazebos, games rooms and studios.

When correctly installed the thatch sections are 100% waterproof and have an average life expectancy exceeding 5 years. This life can be simply extended with regular maintenance. The thatch is specially treated with a fire retardant and borate treatment to minimise the risk of attack by insects.
